The 650 years of Giacomo Jaquerio
The Municipalities of Buttigliera Alta, Rosta and Avigliana and the Fondazione Ordine Mauriziano will celebrate the 650th anniversary of the birth of the painter Giacomo Jaquerio, the greatest representative of late Gothic art in Piedmont, active between Turin, Geneva and Savoy, known above all for the frescoes he created starting in 1410 to decorate the interiors of the Preceptory of Sant’Antonio di Ranverso.
SHUTTLE BUSES TO REACH SANT’ANTONIO DI RANVERSO
On Saturday 5 and Sunday 6 April, people will be able to use the shuttle buses departing from Avigliana and Rivoli for free to reach the Preceptory:
- on both days the shuttle bus from Avigliana will depart from 2 pm onwards from Piazza De Andrè towards the Santuario della Madonna dei Laghi, to allow a visit to the paintings of Jaquerio. The bus will then reach the Preceptory of Sant’Antonio di Ranverso. A ride is scheduled approximately every hour and a half.
- The Rivoli-Sant’Antonio di Ranverso shuttle will depart from Piazzale Mafalda di Savoia from 2 pm onwards. The last ride is scheduled for 7 pm.
THE REDEVELOPMENT OF THE COMPLEX AND THE PROGRAM OF EVENTS
The events of April 5 and 6 are part of a project to redevelop the artistic and cultural center of Sant’Antonio di Ranverso, which also includes the Ospedaletto and the Cascina Bassa.
The celebratory conference will be held on Saturday, April 5, which will open at 9:30 with a greeting from the authorities, followed by speeches by art historians and critics Cristina Scalon and Arabella Cifani, who will focus on the Ranverso center in the papers of the Archive of the Fondazione Ordine Mauriziano and on the revaluation of the figure of Giacomo Jaquerio. This will be followed by a speech by architect Luigi Valdemarin on the restoration of the monumental complex. At 3:00 pm there will be a moment dedicated to schools, curated by Serena Fumero. At 5:00 pm there will be a concert by the Alpini di Rosta choir and the “Il bramito” choir from Bussoleno.
On Sunday 6 April, historical re-enactments will be held and, at 9:30, a 3.5 km circular cultural walk will begin, starting and finishing at the Preceptory of Sant’Antonio di Ranverso and stopping at the chapel of Madonna dei Boschi to visit the frescoes of the Jaquerian school. Those who are more trained can follow the 8 km route, which continues along the “Just the Woman I Am” cycle/pedestrian path to the Giacomo Jaquerio secondary schools and Villa San Tommaso in the Rosa Luxemburg park, also finishing at Sant’Antonio di Ranverso. In the afternoon, at 4:30 pm, the parade of the historical groups “Conte Verde” of Rivoli, “Conte Rosso” of Avigliana, “Il filo della memoria” and “Marchesi Carron di San Tommaso” of Buttigliera is scheduled. At 5 pm, the program of events will close with the concert of the Filarmonica San Marco.
VISIT SANT’ANTONIO DI RANVERSO
The Preceptory can be visited from Wednesday to Sunday from 9:30 to 13:00 (last entry at 12:30) and from 14:00 to 17:30 (last entry at 17:00). The full entrance ticket costs 5 euros, reduced to 4 euros for minors, over 65s and groups of at least 15 people. Children up to 6 years old and holders of the Museum Pass have free entry.
